Bengkel Peningkatan Prestasi PPS

Bismillah...

Ok, first of all, i just got back from a 3 days course related to the PPS (Pusat Pembelajaran Sains). And at 3 pm, i have to rush to UMK to register for my MA and then straight away have my classes. Yet, i am still in front of the laptop, updating my blog. I need to write. i need to express myself now or else, i might burst with alphabets from my mind..see, it's the consequences when you are not really a talkative type of person. u have everything to say in mind, but you just don't let it go out through your mouth. ok. back to the topic.

When i was asked to go to this PPS course by the penyelaras, Kak Aini Talib..i was quite careful. yeap, i don't want the same thing happened twice. Remember i went to Rompin under this PPS thing and it turned out that i need to teach? klik here if you wanna know more. So, when i was quite clear that i do not need to teach, i accepted to go to the course ( as i already know that i can get something beneficial from the GC). Even though it was held during the holiday, i didn't complain. (sebenarnye, sbb tmpt kursus tu dekat dgn rumah..hehehe..)

Back to the kursus..i wasn't really reluctant to go as i think i enjoyed going to a course. I love going there, absorbing the ideas like a sponge, sit back and relax and just listening to people (who love to talk)..sometimes, i did PRETEND that i was fully lending my ears to them.. My first impression towards this course was "ooh, maybe this is going to be a little bit boring" The first session changed this idea. We were divided according to our subjects (Kimia, Fizik, Bio, Maths and English). We had our own JU (who are the Guru Cemerlang)- i love the GCs because they have a lot of modules! yeay~ The ice-breaking session was okay, i got to know the teachers from different schools, from T'ganu and Pahang..we let out all of our problems in teaching English, especially in the PPS classes (because their main concern is regarding the PPS students "the special students")

The problems we face:-
1) Zero English among the weak students
2) How to tackle different levels of students in a classroom
3) Should we teach gramma per se? / How should we teach grammar?
4) How to make the teaching-learning process interesting?
5) Time constraint

Some of the suggestions:
1) Teach basic English, drilling (if we have to) -For Form 5 students, teach them how to answer the questions. Target sections that they have potentials in answering the questions
2) Prepare a multilevel questions/handouts/worksheet. From beginner to advanced. Give out the next level of tasks to those who have finished the first level.
3) Depends. It is advisable to include the grammar points when teaching reading and so on.
4) Prepare lots of hands-on activities. Use coloured papers, Use groupworks. Make the students move. Eg: "give me five" activity
5) Nothing much can say about this....

All in all, the teachers have to have the passion and commitment in teaching. Believe in yourself, then believe in your students. And be as creative and innovative as you can. I'll update later.
