I've learned a lot.

Well, just arrived from Kuala Rompin this morning. Feel like sharing what i did during the four days of the Bengkel Pengurusan Lesson Study for PPS (Pusat Pembelajaran Sains). Actually, i had no idea what's the kursus would be like. NO IDEA at all.

Sunday
Kak Su (another English teacher from my school) and I arrived at the Hotel Summerset around 3pm. It was a-seven-hour journey by car. It was tiring. But, the receptionists there said that they weren't able to check us in yet since the urusetia tak sampai lagi..Around 4 o'clock, we checked in but there was no tentatif/ schedule given to us for the 3 days-course. Di sebabkan x de jadual, kiteorg berdua from SMK CHiku 2 ni pun tak pergi la taklimat yang diadakan pada pukul 830 mlm. Sebabnye? Sebab kiteorg tak tahu. Well, they say Ignorance is blessing..Actually, we were waiting for a call to tell us where we should go for a taklimat that night. Tapi, tak de org call pun. And then, kiteorg tertido. Leh tak?

Monday
Fortunately, kiteorg siap awal the next morning and managed to ask another English teacher about the programme. And we were informed that we had to go to SMK Pontian Jaya for the lesson study. Dengan kalutnye, we had our short breakfast and K.Su's husband sent us to the school. Kiteorg dah la sampai lambat, sesat plak tu. Masuk kelas je, ade cikgu dah stat mengajar.
We had no idea what we were supposed to do. So, i (dengan malu nye) asked one of the teachers who sat at the back. "Cikgu, minta maaf. Kami baru sampai. Apa yg patut kami buat ye?"
Then, she explained the whole thing. Guess what we should do actually?


TEACHING the students in that class! She said that we had to teach "Reading comprehension" and "Summary", on the next day. And we were informed that 15 of the students are the Form 5 and 5 of them are in the Form 4. Hearing this information made me uncomfortable and shocked. She asked me why. And 'she' is one of the moderators who observe the teacher teaching and will give comments during the reflection session. Then, i told her that i'm not teaching Form 4 and 5 in my school. She was shocked. She said that i shouldn't be here. She explained to me that the course was meant for the Form 4 and 5 teachers only. i was confused and at the same time mad at whoever who gave my name for the course..can u imagine it? i wasn't needed here..I felt like going straight home at that moment..Then, K.Su told the moderator that we didn't prepare anything, we didn't bring any materials except Literature books because we didn't informed that we should prepare anything. She asked us to wait until the reflection session to settle this thing.

Di dalam surat yang kami terima tidak menyatakan bahawa cikgu2 perlu menyediakan bahan-bahan untuk mengajar. Surat tersebut hanya mengatakan bahawa objektif bengkel adalah untuk membimbing cikgu2 PPS ini dalam pengajaran mereka.

i was so panicked after that. No materials at all..how can i teach then?

During the reflection session, we were supposed to give comments on the teachers' lesson in the class. There were 6 English teachers (including me) and 2 moderators (one of them was an IPBA-PKPG student, En. Hussein).

The first slot: (Directed Writing -Report)
- Use of ICT (PowerPointPresentation)
- Groupwork (to elaborate the main points)
- Lacking: Students' production was not shown during the P&P.

The second slot: (Continuous writing - Descriptive Essay)
- Set induction: Illustration of an alien based on a paragraph describing the alien
- Brainstorming session (In groups "The person i admire the most"
- List of physical features was given as a reference
- Students' presentation of the main points
- Lacking: Students' production was not shown during the P&P
- Suggestion: T may ask students to write at least an introduction

The third slot: (Directed writing - An informal letter)
- Groupwork: Each group wrote a paragraph for the letter
- The students' productions were pasted on the board.
