I am now in the middle of browsing around the eduwebtv page. Just finished watching a video clip on "Best Practices in TESL", hoping that i'll gain something from it. But, not so much for me. It maybe good and useful for the primary english teachers as the examples shown are all related to the primary learners. And, bear in mind that, the students are at the advanced level. So, it may not be applicable to some of us, who are now teaching low-achievers.
I was attracted to the concept of interactive participation from students. What i got from the video was that the teacher should encourage the students to participate during the lesson. Yes! That's the main purpose in learning, right? Active participation, which i can hardly see and experience in any of my classes. The examples shown in the clip were all primary type-lessons and the students could speak English very well.
How about them showing an English lesson in the Secondary schools and from the weaker classes, students who barely/cannot understand English? We can see all sort of the greatest challenges in those classes. The Master teachers can show us the best way to impart the knowledge at the same time practising the appropriate methods of classroom management...

Why aren't there any videos of weaker students in less desirable locations?
Perhaps the teachers there are too busy doing the actual teaching work & do not have time to think of these extra things.
But if one of us does... It would be a great big hit because this video will be relevant to 80% of teachers in Malaysia.
True2.. I really hope there's something practical for Malaysian classroom that we can refer to...
