I've learned a lot: Part 2

During the reflection session, i decided to teach reading comprehension for 1 hour and 20 minutes (920-1040 am). They asked me to teach summary as well, meaning that i had to teach for 2 hours and 40 mins. For reaalll??? giler ape~ (but, i managed to persuade another teacher to teach summary. ha ha ha)

I hadn't decided yet on the reading text. Fortunately, there were two English teachers (from Mersing and Lui Barat) who helped me a lot. They gave their reference books and even gave their opinions on how to teach reading comprehension. Yalah, dieorg dah ade 3 - 10 tahun pengalaman mengajar.. And thanks to Kak Ah (my sis-in law) as well for contributing her ideas and supported me along the way. hehe~

I decided the reading text at 930pm (i think, during our meeting-together-session). The title of the reading text was "Smelling like their fathers". haaa...this text was about the reasons why some women prefer older men as their husband. An interesting text actually.

And i couldn't sleep that night. Nervous. Nervous and nervous. Thinking that '8 pairs of experienced eyes' would be observing me tomorrow..

Tuesday
Rase mcm nak pengsan dah hari ni. Lagi2 rase nak pengsan sebab nye bile tiba my session, ade orang datang bawak video kamera. Okay. You know what's that mean.. Meaning, bertambah2 lah pair of eyes yg melihat ku.. here goes my lesson:

Reading comprehension.
Set induction: "Describe your future husband/wife" - got lots of responses from the students. And yang memalukannya..i included my features of my future husband (that i'm looking for - he MUST be taller than me. And he must have dimples)
And mase ni, dah terlupe yang ade org observe. Leh ke? Lepas tu baru teringat. malu seihh.

Pre-reading: Prediction of the text based on the words written by the T on the board. And then based on the title.

While reading: Ss skim for main ideas and scan for the details. Discussion. Ss wrote on the whiteboard.

Post-reading: Answer the comprehension questions. Discussion.

Ok, so my lesson was simple. And it was an exam-based lesson..I ended my lesson at 1045am. ha, lebih 5 minit..

K.su and K.Na told me that it was a good lesson. Saje je nk senangkan hati mi kot. And they told me that the moderators had been waving at me throughout my lesson because they wanted the handouts. BUt, i didn't looked at the back of the class, i didn't look at them. I know. That what it was all about. i was nervous. In order to build my confidence, i have a strategy. My strategy was: Don't look at the teachers, especially the moderators, who sat at the back of the class. So, i limit my view to my students only. hahah~

Alhamdulillah. It went well. I loved the students. Eventhough they weren't really active during my lesson. BUt, they were quite responsive especially when i called their name. And my favourite line that day "Oh, i didn't know that we have another Syamimi here in this class". So, Syamimi tu la yg jadik first victim that day.

End of Day 2. Thanks to all teachers who gave me support and encouragement. That was a very valuable experience for me. (Being observed by 9 pairs of experienced eyes as well as being recorded, okay!)
