Yesterday, 19th January 2009. Finally, i got my own table and place. The space is quite spacious with 2 drawers and a medium-size cupboard. I like the place but it's near a big pillar which i feel quite blocking my way.
And today, i received my timetable. I have 27 periods (25 for English and 2 for Solat Berjemaah (SB)). I have to teach 1 Imtiaz, 1 Wasatiyah, 1 Mutmainnah, 2 Hikmah and 3 Hikmah. Three different levels. Meaning to say, i have to read and study all the literature books for all the three forms. For the SB, i have to "escort" 4 Ibn Hashim to the surau for the Zohor Jamaah and tazkirah.
The school routine is quite simple. School starts at 735 am and finishes at 200 (Sun, Mon n Tues) and 125 (Wed and Thurs). There will be a weekly assembly on Sunday and bacaan Yasin on Thursday. And every morning, at 725, all the students will assemble at the assembly area for a discipline slot. But, the teachers never bother to go down and be with the students. They said that the assembly is just between the students and the discipline teachers. Out of curiosity, i tried to peek at what happened during that slot. It is a slot where all the discipline matters are discussed with the students. And coincidently, during the day that i was peeking over, several students were caned. I could hear the sound of the caning from the teachers' room (teachers' room is at the 1st floor). The reasons for the caning were varied from coming late to school, absent from the latihan rumah sukan and etc. And there were four students received a huge 'spank' from the ketua disiplin because of kesalahan merokok. i was quite shocked at first. But, the teachers here said that it was normal. I know that discipline teachers can cane the students. But, in certain area (especially school in "hilir" places are not allowed to cane the students, apatah lagi mahu menyentuh). In my school, i was advised and encouraged by the other teachers to punish the students for their misbehaviours. It is allowed. You can see majority of the male teachers bring a long ruler/cane when they enter their classroom. Even some of the female teachers do it. If not, the students won't listen to you at all. I was quite worried since i'm not the type that can punish the students.
