The Dead Crow and The Earth Song

Literature lesson again. With the Form 1A and 1B students again. In the Multimedia room again.

Yesterday, I taught them ‘The Dead Crow’. This was the third lesson. So, it was merely a revision for them.

First phase:
Started the lesson by recalling the poem – what it is all about. I probed them with questions related to the poem. Taught them the figurative language – symbolism, repetition, personification…

Second phase:
1 Amanah: Quiz time!! Several questions were asked to the groups – the result was: DRAW
1 Bestari: Oral questions - Calling out the students’ names

Third phase:
Watching a video clip: ‘The Earth Song’ by Micheal Jackson
(lyric provided)

Fourth phase:
In groups of four/five – comparing and contrasting the video clip and the poem
- What did you see in the video?
- What are the themes portrayed?
- What does the singer/poet want?
- List down some environmental issues from the video – poem.

Last phase: Whole class discussion / Presentation

The students were able to talk about the video clip and the poem – they managed to come out with words/phrases like “Pollution” “Illegal logging” “Illegal hunters” “Destruction of the earth” “Animals lost habitat” “Take care of the nature for future generation”..
